Why is branding important?

What Is Branding and Why Is It Important for Your Business?

When talking about branding it can be defined as;

“the act of giving a company a particular design or symbol in order to advertise its products and services.”

In the past, this would be an accurate description of what branding typically is. For many branding is still just about visual identity i.e. name, logo, design, packaging etc. Even though branding has evolved so much more than this, people are still being taught the same old vision of what is considered branding. It is much more than just visual aesthetics.

“Brands are essentially patterns of familiarity, meaning, fondness, and reassurance that exist in the minds of people.”— Tom Goodwin

Branding is important not only because it can create a memorable impression on consumers, but customers will know what to expect when using your products and what to expect from the company. It is a way of distinguishing yourself from the competitors and clarifying what it is you offer that makes you the better choice. Your brand is built to be a true representation of who you are as a business, and how you wish to be perceived. These are all really important factors/ traits that I want to implement when designing my own brand

Branding can be used in many different areas including advertising, customer service, social responsibility, reputation, and visuals. All these elements work together to create a unique experience, that will hopefully encourage customers to gravitate towards and use it on a regular basis.

Brainstorming Brand Names

As my concept is about movement and motion, I wanted my brand to reflect this idea in some way. I made a list of potential names that would fit the identity of the product. I created a brainstorm of words words

Brand Values

After researching more about brand values, it was time to create my own that would help me guide my project. Even though this company is only fictional it is still good practice making it seem real as possible. Mainly this is to help you experience and understand what the mindset would be for someone developing their own brand. To start with I jotted down a list of words that I thought would best represent what it is I am trying to achieve with my product. These could refer to the action of the device or the ethos/ tone of voice of the company. Some of the words do overlap, but the exercise is to get all your thoughts out in front of you so don’t worry if you use similar words as they could lead to more useful. After doing this it was time to select the word that was most relevant to my intentions and has and deeper connection.
