After conducting some research into onboarding. I now have greater insight into what it takes to create an effective onboarding. The main take away was to make it interesting and engaging for the user. Learning should be fun. It’s the first touch point for anyone using the app so it is really important to leave a lasting impression on the user. Now that I have story boarded out my onboarding process I am ready to make my own version. To start with I reviewed some examples online paying close attention to style, colour palette and how the work has been presented. This would enable me to visualize what the final outcome would look like.

The hardest part of the process was creating the illustrations that would complement the information. I also wanted to showcase my illustration skills and make the app feel more unique than just using icons. Many of the examples I studied do this which makes them stand out from other designs. One important thing to note when doing this is try and keep everything consistent. The drawings should feel like they are apart of the same body of work. Similar to an icon set. For the past year and half I have been experimenting and practicing my style of illustration after being inspired by creators on social media.

I found a few examples online to help me with constructing these screens. The goal was to make them as clear as possible to the user.

What would help make these more effective and add to the narrative is if they had a micro interaction rather than just a static image. This way the user will be able to see how each action is used in the app. For example how it could show how the watch and phone work as one, whilst the user makes a putting stroke. I will also need to create a simplied version on

I Invision using gifs to aid this part of the app mainly because I want the animations to loop constantly and unfortunately in XD that just isn't possible to do at as it will break the prototype. Unfortunately I don't think I will have time to make it exactly as I want to with a deadline fast approaching but I am going to make a conscious effort to try use a little bit of animation here and there.
